	- Proteins are extracted with a Qiagen AllPrep DNA/RNA/Protein mini kit. Tissues are homogenized following the manufacturer’s instructions with two modifications: (i) addition of protease inhibitors to the lysis buffer (RLT) and (ii) the re-suspension of protein pellets in Modified Reswell Solution.

Publication protocol

Proteins were extracted from placentae with a Qiagen AllPrep DNA/RNA/Protein mini kit (Qiagen Ltd., Crawley, UK), see Ref. [20]. Tissues were homogenized following the manufacturer’s instructions with two main modifications: (i) the addition of protease inhibitors (Protease Inhibitor Cocktail, Sigma-Aldrich Company Ltd., Gillingham, UK) to the lysis buffer (RLT) to maximize protein integrity and yield and (ii) the re-suspension of protein pellets in Modified Reswell Solution [21].
