Publication protocol

Lactobacillus plantarum strains were cultured in MRS broth (Oxoid Ltd., Basingstoke, United Kingdom) at 37°C without shaking. Escherichia coli TOP10 cells (Invitrogen) were grown in Brain Heart Infusion (BHI, Oxoid) broth at 37°C with shaking. Erythromycin was added to a final concentration of 10 μg/mL for L. plantarum or 200 μg/mL for E. coli. For plates, liquid medium was solidified by adding 1.5% (w/v) agar.
