DNA damage was investigated by the TUNEL method by labeling the 30-end of fragmented DNA of the apoptotic cells after treatment with furosine. For this purpose, the ‘‘OneStep TUNEL Apoptosis Assay Kit’’ (Millipore, USA) was used. All cell lines (used in the present study) were treated with different concentrations of furosine for 24 h and fixed with 4% paraformaldehyde in PBS, and then, rinsed with PBS; 0.1% Triton X-100 was used to permeabilize cells according to the manufacturer’s instructions. The FITC-labeled (fluorescein isothiocyanate) TUNEL-positive cells were observed under a fluorescent microscope by using488- and 530-nm emission
