Cells are sourced from various tissues to grow them in in-vitro conditions. Therefore, cell specific nutrients are important for their survival, maintenance and growth. Determining the appropriate cell culture media is a challenge if you are growing a cell line or a microorganism for the first time. Established cell lines, primary cells, stem cells, bacteria and Yeast all require varied nutrients from basic to complex. 	HEK293 cells were cultured in Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium (DMEM) supplemented with 10% (v/v) fetal bovine serum (FBS), 100 unit/mL penicillin and 100 μg/mL streptomycin at 37 °C in 5% CO2. HEK293-APPswe cells were grown in the same culture medium, with the addition of 1 mg/mL geneticin (G418).
