Publication protocol

Frozen tissue sections (at least 10 × 20 µm) or cultured cells were used for RNA isolation (Total RNA Purification kit, Norgen, Thorold, Canada) according to manufacturer’s instructions. Samples were treated with DNase (RNase-free DNase set, Qiagen). RNA concentrations and purity were determined using a NanoDrop 2000 Spectrophotometer.


0.1 µg (foetal testis), 0.2 µg (first-trimester adrenal) or 0.5 µg (second trimester adrenal and adult samples) of total RNA was used for cDNA synthesis using Superscript II reverse transcriptase (Thermo Fisher Scientific), performed according to the manufacturer’s protocol with a 2720 Thermal cycler (Applied Biosystems) in a final volume of 20 µL
