	- On-column digestion is preferable - For high gDNA elimination spin at 6000rpm for 5 min instead of the quick high speed spin	- Include DNAse treatment for 15-20min. - Ensure EtOH is completely evaporated off of the column prior to elution. Adjust time from 1min to 5 min at 60`C. - Use water to elute the RNA that is warmed to ~60`C.

Publication protocol

Total RNA was isolated from the retina using RNeasy Mini kit (QIAGEN). RNA concentration was determined using a NanoDrop 8000 Spectrophotometer. Samples preserved in RNAlater usually yield high quality as assessed with an Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer (Agilent Technologies). RNA-seq libraries were prepared using the TruSeq RNA Sample Preparation kit (Illumina) according to the manufacturer’s instructions and then sequenced by an Illumina HiSeq 2000 system (Illumina)
