Publication protocol

Strains were cultured in overnight in BHI media (Difco) supplemented with 0.5% w/v yeast extract. Growth assays utilized a defined minimal medium (DMM) as described previously. supplemented with either trehalose or glucose as indicated. Anhydrous tetracycline was used at 500 ng/ml to induce expression of ptsT or treA from ectopic expression vectors.
