-Store the unopened kit at 2-8°C upon receipt and when it is not in use. -Keep microtiter plate in a sealed bag with desiccant to minimize exposure to damp air. -All reagents should be allowed to reach room temperature (18-25°C) before use.	-DO NOT DILUTE THE STANDARDS. -Rinse and flick the microtiter wells 5 times with deionized or distilled water. DO NOT USE TAP WATER. -It is recommended that the wells be read within 15 minutes following addition of Stop Solution.

Publication protocol

Following an overnight fast, blood samples were collected using a butterfly needle inserted into the antecubital vein. Samples were collected into a10 ml serum separation tube. Samples were separated by centrifugation at 4°C for 15 min at 1100gand were stored at−80°C until analysed. Serum concentrations ofC-reactive protein (CRP) and IL-6 were measured to assess systemic inflammation. High-sensitivity Quantikineenzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kits (R&DSystems, Minneapolis, MN, USA and Abnova, Taipei, Taiwan) were used to measure serum IL-6 and CRP, respectively. The inter-and intra-assay variability for IL-6was 5.2 and 3.4%, respectively, while that for CRP was 3.3and 4.4%, respectively.
