Plasmid replicons were typed using a PCR-based replicon typing (PBRT) kit (Diatheva) (16): all isolates, with the exception of two ST118 isolates, carried IncX3 replicons (Table 1). To verify whether blaKPC-3 was located on IncX3, the blaKPC-3-carrying plasmid DNAs from these strains were purified by the use of a PureYield Plasmid Midiprep kit (Promega, USA) and transformed into competent E. coli DH5α cells (Invitrogen, USA).
