Publication protocol
Urediniospore viability was determined by three methods: (i) the FungaLight yeast vitality kit (Molecular Probes Inc., Eugene, OR) containing CFDA, acetoxymethyl ester (AM) and PI; (ii) the LIVE/DEAD yeast viability kit (Molecular Probes Inc.) containing FUN 1 and calcofluor white M2R; and (iii) an in vitro germination test. Three spore samples (live, heat-killed, and a 1:1 mix) were tested for each method.
