Publication protocol

Sample Collection: We collected soil samples in the summer of 2015, after 10 years of the onset of warming. We used a 10 cm-tall corer to extract soil, homogenized 332 cm3 of soil inside a plastic sterile Whirl-Pak®, collected approximately one gram, and immediately soaked it in 5 ml of LifeGuardTM Soil Preservation Solution (Qiagen, catalog 12868). Samples were kept in a cooler with ice for 24 h and then transferred to a −80°C freezer until processed 1 week later.
